Valencia appointed former Mexico national-team coach Javier Aguirre as manager through the end of the season, with an option for an additional year, Reuters reported on September 23.
The job will be Aguirre's seventh club position in Spain. His latest Mexico tenure included the country's first World Cup knockout-stage victory since 1986 before a 3-2 loss to England in the round of 16.
Valencia turned to Aguirre after a disappointing start to the domestic season. The appointment is immediate, but results will determine whether the club exercises the additional-year option.
