Russian missiles and drones struck at least four Ukrainian regions overnight into September 22, killing five people, according to Ukrainian officials cited by the Associated Press. Authorities also reported damage to homes, businesses and storage facilities, while several people were wounded.
Ukraine said its forces damaged two Russian oil refineries in long-range strikes. The exchange of attacks came as President Volodymyr Zelenskyy traveled to the United States for meetings surrounding the United Nations General Assembly.
The fighting continues even as diplomatic discussions focus on possible limits to attacks on energy infrastructure and additional support for Ukraine’s air defenses.
