A Reuters/Ipsos poll reported on September 22 found that 73% of U.S. respondents were worried that artificial-intelligence companies had not gone far enough to prevent serious harm to society.
The four-day online poll surveyed 1,277 U.S. adults and had a reported margin of error of about three percentage points. It found that 39% viewed AI’s impact on society negatively, while 11% viewed it positively.
The results arrive as companies release more capable systems and as policymakers debate how quickly AI should advance and how much oversight is appropriate. Poll results describe respondents’ views during the survey period, not a prediction of policy decisions.
