The International Criminal Court convicted former Seleka militia leader Mahamat Said Abdel Kani on four counts of crimes against humanity on September 23, Reuters reported.
The court found him guilty on counts including torture and persecution connected to abuses in the Central African Republic. Reuters reported that he is the first former member of the Seleka coalition convicted by the ICC.
A separate sentencing hearing is expected. A conviction and a sentence are distinct stages, and the final punishment has not yet been determined.
