Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva used his address to the United Nations General Assembly on September 22 to warn against foreign interference in Brazil’s October election, Reuters reported.
Lula said Brazil’s electoral system was robust and warned against disinformation campaigns. He also rejected outside intervention in Brazil’s fight against organized crime while calling for international cooperation on weapons and illicit finance.
The remarks came as Brazil enters the final weeks of its national election campaign and as regional governments debate the scope of U.S. security involvement in Latin America.
