Bolivian lawmakers approved an agreement allowing the country to seek about $1.9 billion through the International Monetary Fund’s Extended Fund Facility, Reuters reported on September 18.

The program calls for fiscal and monetary reforms and is expected to support access to additional financing from institutions including the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank. Legislative approval is distinct from IMF board approval or the disbursement of funds.

The IMF said in its July staff-level agreement announcement that the broader reform program is intended to rebuild international reserves, reduce fiscal and external vulnerabilities and strengthen protections for vulnerable households.
