Argentine President Javier Milei is scheduled to address the United Nations General Assembly on September 23 as tensions with Britain rise over offshore oil drilling near the Falkland Islands, Reuters reported.
Argentina has begun sanctions proceedings against more than 60 companies and individuals connected to offshore oil activity around the islands, according to Reuters. Britain rejects Argentina's sovereignty claim and administers the territory.
The dispute is longstanding, but new energy projects have increased its economic significance. Milei's speech may add diplomatic emphasis, but it does not itself change the islands' legal or administrative status.
